Buddhist Preperation For 2012 [3]
Buddhist Preperation for 2012
This morning I took a wander over to a Tibetan style Buddhist class on the nature of inherent emptiness within forms. Ordained English Buddhist Kelsang Rinchen runs the Cheltenham meditation class. For those with no knowledge of the Tibetan Buddhist systems and schools I will provide a little background at the end of this post.
I have attended NKT meditation classes before, several times over the years, and always found them to be very welcoming environments led by extremely light-hearted and bright teachers. Today the class was no exception. Kelsang Rinchen had a bright, radiant face that made one feel instantly at ease with his presence. It was hard to tell whether he was in his late twenties or early forties (turned out he was 35) as he had an ageless quality to him.
We opened with some sung prayers for gained peace, clarity and wisdom. Essentially encouraging the Buddha, or Buddha nature, to rise up and help extinguish the suffering of all living beings. The words of the prayer, or hymn, deal with the ideal that to help other beings be at peace and feel happy, first one deals with oneself. In destroying personal delusions and suffering one can become a light for others. Eminently sensible if you ask me.
This was followed by a talk on emptiness and the illusionary nature of reality. To be honest emptiness is one of the trickiest core teachings in Buddhism and it can be a stumbling block for many would be Western practitioners. In a very human way our teacher had to pause at times for though or check his notes, this really endeared him to the group. It helped dispel the projected idea of a great guru able to just roll off all his mighty wisdom to we mere mortals in the audience (all 15 of us).
I liked his use of analogy in which he took the sky and its quality of being blue as comparative to form being empty but seeming to have inherent existence. We all know that the sky looks blue, we refer to a blue sky, yet intellectually we also realise it is not factually blue. Anyone who has ever flown in a plane knows that if they look out the window there is just emptiness with no blue to be found. No blue trailing from the wingtips or hovering over the land below. So it is that on examination things of form so dissolve into emptiness of inherent, independent, self-existence.
Our belief in forms being independently real was also compared to the famous old desert mirage in which one sees water. We can easily go running off after the water fully believing it to be really there, yet in truth it is not. Our senses can leave us confused, worn out, and rather cheated. The mirage of water does exist, yet at the same time the water itself does not exist. It is simply a coming together of certain factors within the environment and within the being that cause the mirage of water to appear. Once the specific conditions for it move apart then the mirage promptly disappears as though never present.
We then meditated on the nature of emptiness in relation to our self, the thing we refer to as ‘I’ or ‘Me’. We were asked to track it down whilst in meditation to see whether it had its own reality, whether it was somewhere inside, around, or external to our form. Are we this thought, that feeling or a certain habit?
Inevitably the meditator has to admit this ‘I’ is nowhere to be found and thus is no more inherently self-existent than the mirage of the water, or the blue of the sky. One person is merely the coming together of certain conditions that bring about a general sense of a whole self. It’s a funny feeling of course to conclude this as fact, bearing in mind that we run much of our daily lives centred on an ‘I’ which has never existed.
Try it for yourself sometime.
After the meditation we had a tea break in which I enjoyed a chat to a lady fairly new to the ideas of Buddhism. She compared its tolerant stance to her cousin’s homophobic Christian beliefs. Also rightly pointing out the air of humour, lightness and non-judgement that the morning’s class had to it. This is something I too appreciate about Buddhist teachings that I have enjoyed in the past.
The last part of the session was more focused on the human body and how emptiness could be found there also. In a rather graphic description Kelsang Rinchen asked us to identify the body. Was it our hand, the skin, internal organs or any other part of flesh. Inevitably one concludes that a body is a complex collection of things that are not bodies. He then suggested that if we took some cats and stacked them into a dog-like shape they do not form a dog. We would merely have a collection of cats stacked in a novel manner. So it is with the body. No matter which part we focus on we can’t identify that part as ‘the body’. The meditation on this was similar in form to the previous one, with us trying to track down the body whilst in altered state.
I very much enjoyed the class and will likely attend again soon.
Kindly Kelsang Rinchen also answered two questions for me, which have been bothering me lately. As part of my investigation into my past lives I hit two snags that seemed likely to unravel my revelations so far if utterly incorrect. My evidence collected so far would suggest that in my last life I finished up as a pretty nasty piece of work and ended life smashed to bits in a car wreck, this was then followed by a trip to the hell realms. The life before that it would seem likely that I was a Tibetan Buddhist Monk killed by a Chinese bullet whilst defending the holy texts within my temple.
The two helpful pieces of information garnered from my questions were firstly that it is possible for a being to go from a life in which they are mostly good in nature to one in which they are nastier. Also the vice versa being possible, and that of course it can happen within a single lifetime as well. The second piece of helpful data was that it is perfectly possible for time in a hell realm to run at a different speed to that on the earth plane due to the fact both are artefacts of delusion anyway. Time, as Einstein once said, being itself illusionary in nature. Thank you Kelsang!
Now as promised here is a brief description of some of the background to this particular contemplative path.
The Tibetan Buddhist system is broken into sub-divisions of thought popularly called schools. The four main schools being called the Gelug, Kagyu, Nyingma and Sakya. Most famous is the Kagyu, as this is the school from which H.H. the Dalai Lama originates. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the head of the New Kadampa Tradition in which Kelsang Rinchen is a monk also comes from a Kagyu backgound.
For those with a wider knowledge of the subject it’s worth briefly mentioning the controversy that has led to Kelsang Gyatso (amongst many others) being effectively excommunicated by the Dalai Lama. Its important to note that Kelsang Gyatso is a very well respected Lama, invited to the West by Lama Yeshe (a high Rimpoche recognised reincarnation) with a international popularity for the effective way in which his form of teaching has reached western practitioners.
The fallout with such a respected figure as H.H. the Dalai Lama is both unfortunate and a blessing. It is unfortunate in that unified Buddhism is a great thing, Buddhist sects from all traditions of the world in all Buddhist nations have always maintained friendly and rewarding lines of communication. Anything that causes a degree of infighting within Buddhism is of course a great shame. On the other hand I see breaking of lines of authority between Western Buddhist teachers and central leadership within the Tibetan Buddist Government in exile as a step forward for our forming unique Western schools.
In every land Buddhism has reached its exact form of implementation has been modified, keeping the core teachings but fitting the needs of that nations practitioners. This seems to me to be part of the birth of our own flavour of Buddhist thought and practice. I intend no offence to the die-hard followers of the Dalai Lama’s thoughts on this matter.
I will not explain the entire basis of the division. Suffice to say that it stems from differing beliefs regarding one particular spiritual being, a certain Tibetan guardian deity. The argument is complex, and for a Western practitioner almost utterly irrelevant. Suffice to say that for some reason undue importance has been put upon a mode of practice that is not required for enlightenment. It would seem that both sides have made something of a mountain out of a molehill. I do however see why a high profile individual like the Dalai Lama would at times distance himself from practices that might be advised in his name if he feels they are giving negative results. As someone with more of a Therevada education I would of thought the whole matter should have been cleared up by whether use of the practice relating to this deity gave positive results. The Buddha taught that if something in any teaching did not give positive tangible results it should be discarded and not held as an article of faith!

2012 & Zero Point Consciousness [8]
A Journey Into Fundamental reality
In the field of 2012 research, a common territory to encounter is the idea of transformation, or evolution, of consciousness. That our very base consciousness might be somehow changing is of course quite extraordinary to consider. Problematic though is setting the initial scene for this; after all, in many areas of mainstream physical science consciousness isn’t understood. Rarely is it even given a meaningful and informative description. What then is it that we call consciousness, and how might it evolve?
The best description I have heard for this ethereal element within all living is the one it is given by a group of advanced research scientists.
“Consciousness, at its most basic, is coherent light.”
To take a step toward this amazing arena of knowledge, let us first consider the physical human being. One of the challenges for us is to think about non-physical forces when we are geared up to think about, and interact with, a very physical world. Correct?
Well the problem with this supposition is the fact that we are ourselves made up of physical building blocks named, ‘Atoms’. Under scientific investigation, it was found that over 99% of an Atom is actually empty space. Therefore, as you are yourself over 99% empty space, non-physical, it rather flies in the face of the idea that we are primarily physical beings who benefit by focussing on that element exclusively. What of the other 99%, surely that must be important to look at.
To answer this we need to know exactly what is it that makes up the fabric of existence itself. When we look at the most basic level of the energetic universe, we encounter something known as the Zero Point Field. This field is measurable, commonly is has to be normalised out of many scientific experiments in order to give more clear results. The field is theorised to be an infinite source of potential energy, its identifiable effects however, all occur at the quantum level. Yet we have no Zero Point Energy Well’s, despite research, however the investigations into this have begun to answer many questions about human beings and mental process such as memory.
The non-physical other 99% of you is in fact made up of just this zero point field, and even the other 1% is permeated by it. By experimenting on animal brains, in horrendous procedures, researchers found that memories have no single location in the brain. No matter which areas were destroyed, animals could remember a task they had learned before the experiment. This non-local aspect of memory lead to the realisation that memory must operate rather like a field of energy, it was spread throughout an entire being, not simply stored within its brain. The brain then had to be operating rather like a radio transmitter and receiver rather than like some kind of hard disc data device. There is no ‘ghost in the machine', it’s all seemingly remote control from a more refined level of energetic interaction.
In a previous article, I wrote about some of the relevant research on the subject of the human body having light as a component part. The information maintaining human beings at the cellular level is carried by photons of light. These photons move around channels in the body, referred to as microtubules. The description of a microtubule is rather like describing a mystical symbol rather than a core element of our own selves.
These cell frameworks’ form as hexagonal lattices called tubules, these make up tiny hollow tubes of indefinite length. 13 strands of tubules wrap around the hollow core of a cell in a spiral, radiating outward like a wheel. One of their more astonishing characteristics is the amazing ability in perfectly conducting pulses of light photons. Seemingly, these could well be much like the network of nadis, or channels, spoken of in Eastern medicine. This network of tubules may it seems be carrying information recorded in light to all parts of a person constantly.
Within the coherent light is information, a flow of information that relates everything to everything. On the level of the human being, this means that light photons within the body have a network of such a high order that data is transported around the being almost instantly. To allow this to happen requires reference to that other peculiar science, Holography, the science of Holograms.
Lets not kid ourselves that Holography is some easy answer that clears up the mess, it merely gives us a working model for how this all might be at least possible. The work on Holograms has lead to the acceptance of coherent light, and indeed theories on how information is dispersed in such a way as that all parts of a whole have within themselves the entire collation. The fact is that pieces of broken Holographic plates can produce the entire original 3D image when examined. This shows that instantaneous molecular memory can occur, and that information at the energetic level can be in multiple places at once. What makes each part, just at the moment of shatter; suddenly encode the entire image, unlike a broken picture.
The uncanny way in which this fact matches up to elements of DNA’s characteristics is most notable. We now know that DNA can be extracted from any part of a being, and then be used to image the whole beings composition. We understand that each strand is able to hold any, and indeed seemingly all; possible programs used to create the human body. This perhaps makes one think of the ancient spiritual axiom ‘As Above…So Below’, in that it does seem higher dimensional physics and physical sciences do mesh rather well in this instance.
If we indeed have at our core light in some kind of flux or stasis allowing information to be present everywhere at once, then we are on the borders of Holography and Quantum Field Theory. Welcome to a place where science allows for bi-location, teleportation, faster than light movement, and omnipresence of particles. It’s the Twilight Zone where exist objects of zero mass that can be seen but not measured, data stored in the substratum of space, oneness of all things at the deepest level.
To me it is a place we might call, ‘The Shores of the Ocean of Consciousness’. Beings are like a friction, created by two energy fields moving against each other. The mythical ‘Rainbow Bridge’, or realised human being, via their energy channels and energy centres (Sanskrit names as Chakras & Nadis) is like a step-down or step-up transformer. The human system is able to extract information or energy from the Zero Points invisible realm, and just as well, it seems to be able to take energy from the more mundane seeming realm and utilise it for self-growth. Like a tree, whilst our branches bask in the light above and extract energy, so do the roots burrow down into the darkness to feast upon that element also.
It is too simple to state that we are just Holograms in a Matrix world of illusion. The truth seems to be far more complex, and more interesting. We do have ordered Holographic elements to us, but also the randomness of quantum mechanic process with it. One thing seems for sure though, and that is that the body is an important by-product of consciousness energy, zero point energy, interacting with itself in mysterious seeming ways.
I personally find it easiest starting with the idea that everything is pure consciousness energy, and then work your way down until you get back to why physical things are still real in a manner. Leaning to either extreme of absolute acceptance, or denial, of the reality of things can be unhelpful to self-progress. Like most situations, a middle ground is the sensible and most fitting to the data available at this time.
Yes, we are beings of light, and yes, we are physical beings. Yes, we are all one, and yes, we are all individuals. It may seem an uncomfortable duality to hold, but it should not be held as a theory only. That would be useless; if it is true then we each can surely perform our own scientific investigation to gather evidence. We should be able to bridge the gaps between these truths.
The lucky thing is that we each have one of these mystical anomalies readily available to investigate; we call it our ‘self’. The reasonable person investigating such matters becomes aware that no piece of laboratory equipment is likely to prove this at this time. If our ‘self’ has multi-dimensional attributes then these must surely be identifiable during a thorough experimentation of this most prized possession.
Science is like the magic door to other realms, but it can never step through to beyond, only the researcher themselves can do that.
Just for the record I do not personaly see how consciousness can evolve, when it is already everything that can ever be.

2012 & The Kali Yuga [3]
One of the most interesting calendar coincidences in relation to the Mayan 2012 information, is the similarity between the start dates of the last long count cycle of the Mayan system and the Hindu’s Kali Yuga. Yuga’s are vast periods of time, epoch’s that relate to the Earths journey around a cosmological central sun. The four Yuga (Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga and Kali Yuga) together make up an entire world age between creation and destruction events, held to be around 4,320,000 years in total duration.
Most 21-12-2012 researchers are aware of the 3114BCE start date of the current long count cycle, less people are aware however that the Kali Yuga, a predicted era of moral decent and spiritual bleakness, began in the year 3102BCE. A startling similarity, a mere 12 years difference for systems on different sides of the planet. The Brahma Vaivarta Purana Sutra from ancient India depicts a period which has many of the failings visible in our modern society, such is the backdrop of the spiritual decline in the Kali Yuga.
It is however a mistake for people to seek a link between the Mayan 2012 end-date and the closing of the Kali Yuga. Though their starts may have links the ends do not (although some suggest this is an error). The Kali Yuga is set to continue on for a vast period of time, at least 432,000 years, well eclipsing the 5126 years of the Mayan Long Count. Scholars from philosophies such as Buddhism, and from religions such as Brahmanist Hinduism, often discuss ages as being many millions of years long, entire vast Kalpa of time are addressed.
There is an excellent Buddhist parable that depicts visually an era of time described as an Aeon, far more effectively than a string of numbers. A teacher monk explains that an eon can be likened to the great stone mountain Meru. Once every year a man passes the mountain and lightly brushed against it a strip of the finest silk. The mountain will be completely worn away by his action well before the aeon closes.
Its worth noting that the Buddhist philosophy does not tend to hold with the idea that a time of any great Universal significance will happen in our near future, every moment carries the same inherent problems and their solutions. The only significant events predicted or prophesised are the ending the vast epochs, or the extremely intermittent arising of new Buddha’s. There have been suggestions in relation to 2012, that the next Buddha will arise at this time in a rather Judeo-Christian end of days scenario. Unfortunately anyone educated in Buddhist lore will know that it is made clear that fully enlightened Buddha’s only arise millions of years apart. Buddhism is prophesised to completely disappear during the Kali Yuga, and that during that time it will be virtually impossible for seekers to find any opportunity for spiritual realisation at all by any system known now. Only when such utter darkness has shrouded the world will another being become fully realised wholly by their own efforts, without any guidance, and become the next Buddha, named Maitreya.
The most notable discussion on the Kali Yuga by Buddhist teachers actually refers to how lucky a being is to be born as a human in such a time. To quote the master wisdom teacher Pabongka Rimpoche, “Most important of all through this physical rebirth you are able to achieve the state of Vajradhara [unification of the illusory body and great bliss] within one short lifetime in this degenerate age; otherwise it would take thee countless great aeons to achieve. Thus this rebirth is worth more than one thousand billion precious jewels.”
21-12-2012 may close a cycle of time related to consciousness change within our species, after all the Mayans were highly focussed on biological and environmental cycles. It would make sense that they had tried to do the same with psychological and spiritual forces. This would be in accordance with the great Asiatic measures of Yuga and Kulpa, as they too relate to the evolution of human consciousness. This considerably shorter cycle of the Long Count would only relate to a significant change in thought process’s however, not to a sudden total self enlightenment of the human species in totality. Even if we take into account the entire Great Year of the Galactic Alignment (26,000 years max.) it is vastly less that the periods Asiatic teachers consider necessary for super-massive consciousness upgrades.
The talk of 2012 consciousness change is by needs somewhat vague, nobody knows for sure just what might happen. That said it is wise to perhaps disregard the position which suggests suddenly every person on Earth will automatically become fully enlightened spiritual beings, ready to embrace a world of spiritual concerns, peace and compassion. It is self evident that the last time a Great Year period ended we did not have this happen, nor in prior cycles. The fact is that we are still here and not fully self realised, so we know it does not tend to happen that way. Whether perhaps some certain persons were especially effected or did somehow ascend to a higher dimension remains possible, but as stated that’s not everyone on Earth.
If this cycle is important in regards to the evolution of consciousness then its more likely that the effect is far more subtle, either an evolutionary change in our neurological system, or perhaps a general refinement of the functioning of mental energies. The advantage given would perhaps make self realisation somewhat easier only because the tools, the technology of self development, gets upgraded. If you were a psychopath on 20-12-2012 it strikes me unlikely that even this cosmic-consciousness change will cause you to become a saint in under 24hrs.
In the start of the great thinker (oddball) Nietzsche’s book, ‘Thus Spake Zarathustra’, it is stated that ‘God is dead’. Actually this concept, if widely excepted, would make more of a change to our society then any evolutionary force imaginable to us. Currently the vast majority of the planet is operating under a system of belief that a Supreme being wrote or dictated a book of rules for them to live by, all open of course to a plethora of personal interpretation. Inclusive in these system are various promised punishments or rewards dependant on obedience to the set of rules given, the old carrot and the stick to move the donkey along routine.
This abhorrent position, as discussed here in an excellent related article, means that the vast majority of the planet is incapable of helping change the orientation of the species toward an optimum direction if it contradicts something in a book. In my own library here I have copies of many spiritual texts including those of the four major theistic traditions, Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Hindusim. I have also many other books, plenty of them are extremely wise and have much to offer. If however I simply picked one and said I would only act if my actions were guided by that book that would doubtless lead to great problems.
Taking guidance from each book is only helpful up to a point, its my own mind and spirit that must be constant and able for the task of self realisation and environmental improvements. If before I can act I must consult a book, clearly there is something wrong with me, I should be able to do the optimum action immediately with no conscious thought whilst functioning at my optimum ability. Compassion should become my very nature at every moment and guide every action.
The best thing that could happen on 2012 might just be that people would put down their various books for a moment and take a long hard searching look within themselves. Before we rush headlong into a new period of economic and religious wars, we should surely pause for deep reflection. There are many questions I would want each to ask themselves first.
Do we really want a world split into two halves, one mainly poor, downtrodden and subverted by religious fanatics, and the other wealthy but ruthlessly controlled by New World Order dictators?
Wouldn’t our children be thankful to us for not having allowed that to happen?
Would the creative force that makes up the very fibre of all existence, that is the material of our core spirits, need to write an instruction manual for life, like some cheaply paid Ikea furniture manufacturer?
Most of the worlds great spiritual teachers have made it clear that every human has the ability to better themselves and raise themselves to the level we might call ‘saintly’. Yet each is also unique and will requires different focus, efforts, and forms of assistance from others. The only absolute equality and connection between each person is the actual energy of consciousness on which they run and from which they draw their ‘self existence’. To discover how they should then best proceed they should not ask someone else or read a certain text, first they should just try to take a period of reflection and get to grips with whom they are and what issues they need to work on.
This process means that if they then go for help or read advisory material, they can then refine from it the part useful to them in particular rather than being treated to a ‘one size fits all’ solution. That structure may work for cheap T-Shirt manufacturers, but seems woefully inefficient for the enlightenment of an eternal spiritual being constructed of pure consciousness energy.
When we allow books to instruct us in doing something wrong, perhaps even evil, we cant blame the books. If I subjugate a women or take someone as a slave I know it is wrong without picking a book up of my shelf. I don’t need to find a psalm or Sutra to know that killing and stealing are grossly unfair and cruel. Even the mundane ups and downs of my day are filled with actions that I am aware of being either optimal or substandard. I find it naïve to believe that whilst a mob stones someone to death for blasphemy or, rapes someone because they are seen as a lower caste, that the individuals are not all aware that they are in fact in the wrong. If a God were to state otherwise then it would have to be a wicked and evil entity, one to be exorcised by the might of our compassion. Whilst humans cut each other to ribbons or apply mind numbingly cruel tortures to one another, they speak about there adherence to the rules of some divine, loving and compassionate God. To me this is greatly unsettling, when we begin to call quite evil actions ‘good’, then we are in real trouble.
If I could wish for anything to happen on the 21-12-2012 it would simply be that everyone one of us for a moment dropped any external guiding principles from our minds, both religious and social rules. Then just sat quietly and analysed what it means to be alive, a human, compassionate, and a seeker of happiness. Before picking up any of the old ways they could first bring themselves up to speed and better understand these basic guiding forces. We are all here together in this great web we call life, we are all in human form, each of us desires happiness and all would be happier if everyone was compassionate.
Having realised that situation we could then observe that even when no other is doing an action that would be causing us harm, we can still lack lasting happiness. Finally there would be no ability to avoid the obvious cause of our fluctuating emotional states, that its all within us, not somewhere ‘out there’. From that point on self-realisation and enlightenment are observable phenomena just on the horizon of our self existence, finally.
“One of the most curious things in the structure of our psyche is that we all want to be told because we are the result of the propaganda of ten thousand years. We want to have our thinking confirmed and corroborated by another, whereas to ask a question is to ask it of yourself. What I say has very little value. You will forget it the moment you shut this book, or you will remember and repeat certain phrases, or you will compare what you have read here with some other book – but you will not face your own life. And that is all that matters – your life, yourself, your pettiness, your shallowness, your brutality, your violence, your greed, your ambition, your daily agony and endless sorrow – that is what you have to understand and nobody on earth or in heaven is going to save you from it but yourself.”

The Awakening of Teotiwakan
The Fifth Toltek Sun started on May 22, 311 CE. May 22 is the yearly date of the northern zenithal passage of the Sun at the latitude of Teotiwakan: the “City of the Gods.” Precisely on that day, Venus transited through the face of the solar disk, just as it had done 8 years earlier, on 24 May 303 CE. The Tolteks constructed the Pyramid of the Sun just on time for this astronomical event. This twin astronomical event is reflected on the myth of the creation of the Fifth Sun. Just as the legend tells us; Ketzalkoatl threw himself into the fire (first Transit of the pair) and went to Miktlan (land of the dead) but failed to bring the bones of the ancestors, so next was the turn of Xolotl, his twin brother who, after throwing himself in the fire (second transit of the pair) and venturing into Miktlan, successfully brought the bones of the ancestors back. Ketzalkoatl-Xolotl (Venus) then bled over the bones of the ancestors and created the new humanity. The birth of the Fifth Sun.
The end of the Mayan Long Count on 2012 has generated momentous interest throughout the world. This phenomenon has sprouted numerous books and theories on the meaning of this event. Researchers and authors span the gamut from academia to fringe spiritual theories. Epiphenomena such as crop circles and the re-emergence of the shamanic experience have also become an important part of the 2012 movement. Yet there is one story that is of paramount importance and has never been told outside of Mexico. The following is only part of that story.
First though I feel it’s necessary to give a personal account of where my life intersects the story you are about to read. From 1968 to 1974, I often went with my grandmother to a small village in Mexico called “Aldea de los Reyes”, this precious village sits at the foot of the snowcapped volcano known as “Istaksiwatl” (White Woman) the female companion to the active volcano known as “Popokatepetl” (smoking Mountain).
My grandmother, my brother, and I stayed in a small brick cabin owned by a gentle woman, a childhood friend of my grandmother. I remember clearly those days. The days were spent with my brother exploring the small village and surrounding mountains, the evenings were spent listening to wonderful stories told by my grandmother and her friend. It was years later, when I was in my twenties that I met her son: Antonio Velasco Piña “The Witness”.
Velasco Piña is well known in Mexico as the author of several books on the re-emergence of Indigenous consciousness. Chief among them is “Regina el Dos de Octubre no se Olvida” (Regina October 2nd won’t be Forgotten). The following account is based on that book, also on the book “El Despertar de Teotihuacan” (The Awakening of Teotihuacán), and my personal conversations with Antonio Velasco Piña. His books have not been translated to English.
Regina was born in that same cabin where I spent unforgettable childhood days. On March 21st. 1948 her soon to be parents had gone on a trip to the nearby town of Amekameka. On the way back to Mexico City, they stopped at the town of “Los Reyes” to take in the scenery. Regina’s mother felt the pains of labor and they sought refuge in the brick cabin owned by Velasco Piña’s mother. Fortunately Antonio who was then a child of twelve and his mother were at the cabin that day and readily opened their doors to the pregnant couple. Antonio’s mother called the local midwife to help with the birth of Regina.
Several months prior to the birth, the pregnant couple had gone to India where they visited the Buddhist Temple at Shahjanpur. At the temple, a visiting Tibetan Lama, Tschsandzo Tschampa, approached the couple and told them that the soon to be born child was an Avatar and asked them to move to Tibet where the Lama would see to the her proper upbringing. Regina’s mother was reluctant and decided to have Regina in Mexico. The young couple promised the Lama that they would go to his monastery in Tibet once the child was born.
Regina was indeed taken to Tibet by her parents. She spent her childhood under the care of the Tibetan Lama Tagdra Rimpoche, the same Lama who recognized the incarnation of the current Dalai Lama. When Regina was only a couple of years old, she was taken to visit the then young 14th Dalai Lama, who immediately recognized her as a Daikini. Regina stayed in Tibet even after the Chinese invasion. In 1958 the Chinese army killed her parents who were living in Lhasa. Regina and her mentor hid in an isolated cave in a remote area of Tibet in order to complete her training. Eventually, the Chinese found them, killed the Lama Tagdra Rimpoche, and imprisoned Regina for several years. When she was 19 years old, the Chinese released her to the Mexican authorities.
Regina arrived in Mexico City in 1968. Not knowing anyone there, she headed to the only address she knew: Antonio Velasco Piña’s mother’s house in Mexico City. She was received warmly and invited to stay for as long as she desired. It was then that Regina met Antonio Velasco Piña and asked him to witness and chronicle the events that were sure to follow. Velasco Piña has not only done that, but he also founded the Casa Tibet-Mexico, which was inaugurated by the Dalai Lama in 1989. He is also an indefatigable leader of the Reginos: the followers of Regina.
In a few months, Regina became very active, promoting cultural events around the recovery and recreation of the knowledge of the ancient Mesoamericans. It was through her activities that she met the four Secret Guardians of the Tradition. These four men were the current Guardians of the Indigenous traditions (Toltek, Sapotek, Maya and Olmek) that went underground since the Spanish invasion. Depositories of ancient knowledge that they had inherited from the previous Secret Guardians, these lines of Guardians extend uninterrupted all the way back to 1521. These four individuals upon meeting Regina knew it was time to start the process of re-awakening the Pyramid of the Sun.
On March 21st. 1968, when Regina turned twenty years old, she and the four Secret Guardians of the Tradition, went into the cave at the base of the pyramid and performed a ritual ceremony to awaken its heart, its energetic center. According to the Tradition, this center serves as a synchronous resonant chamber that amplifies earthly and cosmic energies. After the ceremony Regina explained to the Guardians of the Tradition that there remained four energetic seals on the pyramid.
These seals had been put in place by the Toltek and had the effect of inactivating the pyramid’s geo-energetic resonant function. Regina and the Guardians knew that the spiritual energies of the Earth were once again moving polarities, from the Himalayas to the American Cordillera. It was the Tibetan Lamas who needed to perform the rituals necessary to break the first three energetic seals and only then she and the Secret Guardians could break the fourth seal, which sat at the top of the pyramid.
Mexican agents murdered Regina on the night of October 2nd. 1968. She was shot from a helicopter during the infamous student massacre that took place in Tlatelolko. Regina died on top of the small pyramid at Tlatelolko surrounded by the four Secret Guardians of the Tradition and the Witness, Velasco Piña. The Guardians buried her body in a well-hidden cave in the Istaksiwatl.
Many years later, the Witness, the four Secret Guardians of the tradition, and the many followers of Regina, known as “Reginos” were able to invite his Excellency the 14th Dalai Lama to perform the first of four rituals needed to break the energetic seals that kept the Piramid of the Sun from functioning properly.
On July 3rd. 1989, the Dalai Lama flew in a helicopter to the ancient city of Teotiwakan and performed the first of these rituals. Several thousand Reginos, dressed in white were present at this ceremony. For the first time in over a thousand years, the earth energy that emanates from the heart of the Pyramid was allowed to flow out. But it only scattered through the ground, like water from a broken faucet, losing its power as three seals remained in place.
The next year, on March 21st. 1990, under strict instructions from the Dalai Lama, eight Lamas from the Ganden Shartse Monastery conducted the second ritual ceremony. Over 30,000 Reginos were present at Teotiwakan for the occasion. This time the energy flowed out of the pyramid and upwards but was stopped by the third seal, which was located at the first platform of the pyramid. The third ritual was scheduled for 1992.
On March 21st. 1992, Tibetan Lamas were to conduct the third of the four ritual ceremonies that would reopen the energetic flow of the Pyramid of the Sun.
After the two previous ritual ceremonies conducted at the Pyramid of the Sun, the INAH or National Institute of Anthropology and History, decreed that the ritual ceremony scheduled for March 21, 1992 would not be allowed. The permit that Casa Tibet-Mexico (the organizers of these events) had applied for to bring ten Tibetan Lamas from the Drepung Loseling Monastery, whose turn it was to perform the third ritual ceremony at the Pyramid of the Sun, was denied. The reason given to the public was that the growing presence of people at the previous rituals (30,000 people attended the 1990 ritual ceremony) would damage the structures at Teotiwakan. In order to prevent this event from taking place, the INAH requested the presence of the Mexican Army at the famous archaeological site.
Mexico and The Tibetan government in exile have no diplomatic relations, while Mexico and China do. China had protested against the character of these events. While the Mexican Government had granted visas to the Tibetan Lamas, it appeared likely that the third and final Tibetan ritual ceremony required to open the third energetic seal of the Pyramid of the Sun would not be performed.
As the March days went by, the attitude of the Mexican Government didn’t change. No permits were issued and the 5th Artillery Regiment moved into the archaeological site of Teotiwakan. It seemed that the ceremony was to be cancelled. When the Lamas were told of the situation, they responded by saying that they would risk their lives if necessary in order to perform this ritual.
Around midnight on the 20th of March of 1992, something extraordinary took place. The President of Mexico Carlos Salinas de Gortari ordered the Mexican army to leave Teotiwakan and countermanded the head of the National Institute of History and Anthropology, who was ordered by the President to grant the necessary permits for the third ritual ceremony to be performed. What moved the President to issue these instructions? Nobody knows. As a gesture of gratitude to the President of Mexico, the Guardians of the Tradition gave him a beautiful handmade book, one of an edition of fifty, titled “The Aztec-Mexican Computations of Time”.
Around sunrise on March 21st. 1992, the Lamas arrived at Teotiwakan. They were ten: seven youths and three elders. Their leader seemed more a warrior than a priest. The multitude of people numbered close to 100,000, most of them followers of the martyred Mexican Avatar, Regina. The Reginos, dressed in white, presented an amazing picture, a sea of white that contrasted with the colorful garments of the Tibetan Lamas.
The lamas made their way to the stairs of the Pyramid of the Sun and climbed to the first platform where the third energetic seal was located. On the platform a group of “Concheros” or traditional Aztec dancers blew seashells, a symbol of Ketzalkoatl, sang, and played traditional drums. Once the “Concheros” finished their salutation to the five directions, the Lamas began their mudras and chants. A that moment a dot of black manifested in the sea of white, it moved slowly through the multitude towards the great Pyramid of the Sun. They were thirteen people dressed in black and armed with huge sticks, they were worshipers of Tezcatlipoka: twelve men and one woman. The woman at the lead of the precession kept repeating in a loud voice: “Out of here damn foreigners, this is ours!” The spirit of peace that permeated the multitude was firm and no one attempted to stop the intruders. They made it as far as one of the corners of the pyramid, but before they could start their ascent to the first platform, Alberto Ruz (the son of the discoverer of Palenque) with a contingent of Rainbow Warriors from Wewekoyotl (Old Coyote) their community in Tepoztlan (the birthplace of Se Akatl Topiltzin Ketzalkoatl), made a human barrier.
The thirteen worshipers of Tezcatlipoca decided to change their route and attempt to ascend the pyramid through the stairs at the center of the pyramid. The multitude realizing what was going on reacted with a chant: “Tibet-Mexico! Tibet-Mexico” and some people decide to stand in their way but were forced out of the way with the huge sticks. The spirit of consciousness was such that no one reacted violently to this aggression.
As the thirteen worshippers of Tezkatlipoca arrived at the platform, Mr. Miguel Limon, the Undersecretary of the Interior for Migratory Affairs, and only official authority at the event, reproached their attitude in very strong words and reminded them of the traditional hospitality of the Mexican people. His words disarmed six of the intruders who turned back. Seven of them kept going past the Undersecretary. A second authority stepped up to stop their advance on the Lamas. Domingo Dias Porta, known as “Titolopochtli”, who with the support of the Guardians of the Tradition has worked to recreate the Sacred Traditions of Amerrikua.
He spoke to them in a serene and quiet voice, he expressed to them that Teotiwakan is nobody’s monopoly and it belongs to the entire human race. Another six of the intruders desisted from their goal to reach the Lamas. Only the woman kept moving forward with the intention of attacking the Tibetan priests.
The sudden irruption on the site by the worshipers of Tezcatlipoka had two different effects on the Lamas; the young ones showed concern in their faces, but the three elder Lamas seemed to be pleased and indeed were smiling at the unexpected occurrence. Their eyes were focused on the huge incensory a few feet away, a thick cloud of aromatic smoke emanated from it. When the woman finally reached the other side of the incensory opposite to where the lamas were standing, the smoke appeared to be a barrier that the woman could not overcome, she stopped her advance and at that moment the Tibetan lamas concluded the ritual ceremony that broke the third of the four energetic seals of the Pyramid of the Sun. Unbeknownst to the Priestess of Tezcatlipoka, her negative energy had been necessary to bring forth the rupture of the third seal.Regina had explained to the Witness and the four Secret Guardians of the Tradition, that just as a Mexican had to begin the process of awakening the Pyramid of the Sun, it was the duty of a Mexican to conclude the awakening of the pyramid. In March of 1993 the Guardians of the Tradition performed the last ritual ceremony and broke the 4th. and last seal, the one that sat on top of the pyramid. It was then that the powerful and subtle energies of the Cosmos and the Earth united to generate a light energy for the use of any human being on the planet who wishes to use it for the realization of a higher consciousness. The first step in the process of re-polarization of the Earth’s spiritual and consciousness energies had been achieved. The Pyramid of the Sun has been reactivated and is now fully functional as the energy resonator it was constructed to be.
It has become a common site to see Tibetan lamas performing rituals all over Mesoamerica and South America; the purpose of these rituals is to reactivate all of the geomagnetic points on the American Cordillera and facilitate the spiritual re-polarization of the planet. Perhaps this is why China is becoming the great materialist, while the Americas are seeing a revitalization of its spiritual dimension. The task for all of us appears to be straightforward, to promote and guide a paradigm shift, a spiritual and consciousness awakening based on the ancient knowledge of the rhythms of a living Earth and a living Cosmos.
